Mark Yates told the official website after today's convincing win over Exeter City that he got the reaction he wanted from his players as they picked up their first home win of the season.

After losing ten games at home last season, Harriers hadn't made the best of starts to their Aggborough campaign with two defeats to Aldershot and Stevenage Borough.

But after a rather amusing if slightly novel training exercise yesterday and after a pre-match warning from Yates, the players duly dispatched Exeter with a ruthless display.

"It was something that I didn't want to be a monkey on the player's necks," he told harriers.co.uk, speaking of the team's poor home start.

"We did something yesterday to try and lighten the players' mood here, it was a ten minute exercise and it was quite funny!

"I told the lads today that I didn't want there to be any talk like 'we haven't won at home' - I just wanted them to be positive and to get at Exeter and that's what I got.

"There are no excuses about our home form from last season, especially now the pitch is so good.

"The lads are confident - we've had three tough games here now against three tough sides, but we'll be okay."

Confidence will no-doubt be high at Aggborough after such a thorough success against such a strong outfit, but a rather unpleasant and uncompromising test awaits Harriers in midweek.

They travel North to face new-boys Farsley Celtic, with Yates calling on his players to keep up their work-rate.

"We do try to work hard and we do have a good worth ethic about us and that's what makes us play well," he continued.

"Some of the passing and the movement for the goals today was superb.

"But we're not going to get carried away on it - we've got a tough, tough trip to Farlsey on Tuesday and we have got to look to build on the last two performances."

The hosts performed to a man today and whilst there were many sterling performances, there was always going to be an obvious choice for Man of the Match, in three-goal hero James Constable.

Boss Yates added: "I'm delighted for James; he got his rewards today for six games of working really hard.

"Things haven't quite gone for him before now - he's been unlucky in hitting the target but not scoring lots of times but today things went for him, he was in the right place at the right time and there were some good finishes as well."
