Boss Happy After Burton Win
Mark Yates has admitted that today's performance at Burton Albion was proof that his side are still very much capable of achieving something this season as they began November in style.
A rather drab run in the Blue Square Premier throughout last month saw Harriers pick up just one win from their five league encounters.
But, they've equalled that just three days into November in the only way they could, by dispatching the Brewers' on their own turf.
It was Albion's first league loss in some 15 matches, and it's certainly no easy job to escape from the Pirelli with a point or three.
Understandably then, it was a pleased Yates who spoke to the press after the game.
"I thought we had a game plan and we stuck to it and played some really good stuff," he said.
"We showed the commitment and the desire that we've got to show week in, week out and if we do that, we can still achieve this season.
"Those were my thoughts to the boys at the end: well done, you've beaten a good side and if you keep playing like that there won't be many sides that can touch us."
Harriers began the game with a 4-5-1 formation, which, whilst stifling of the Burton threat, was hardly as 'defensive' as it may seem, with the visitors dominant in possession and chances.
Yates continued: "I've got a lot of respect for Nigel Clough and for Burton Albion as a team and a football club and I just felt if we could stop their full-backs getting the ball, particularly Webster then it might just work against the side.
"Russ [Penn] plays that role ever so well, he scores goals when he's out there and he creates havoc, he could have had more than one today."
The Harriers' boss had few complaints about the sending off of Dean Bennett in the second half.
With the midfielder's three-month loan spell unable to be extended ahead of the January transfer window, it's possible Bennett has played his last action of his latest spell at Aggborough.
"A few of the players have said it was probably a sending off and he has lunged in a little bit so we've got no argument with that," admitted the Aggborough boss.
"But the lads showed the character and spirit they have amongst them because Burton created very little after that."
Defender Paul Bignot scored his first-ever Kidderminster Harriers goal in the 2-0 success today, and Yates added: "I'm delighted for Bigs because he doesn't get many goals - I think that was long overdue!"
