Yates Delighted With 'Ugly' Win
Boss Mark Yates was happy to win ugly against Cambridge, and revealed his side's win could be the turning point of the season.
Thursday night's result at Aggborough lifted Harriers back up to tenth in the Blue Square Premier, and back in with a shout of those play-off places, which wouldn't have been the case had the side lost further ground this weekend with the rest of the division in action.
The performance was never a polished one from the home side but that's no real worry for Yates, who admitted his delight at the 1-0 victory, thanks to Iyseden Christie's goal.
Speaking to the official website after the game, the Manager agreed it was the result that matters the most.
"It's a win we needed - we haven't got a league game now until Boxing Day and we couldn't afford to go another game without a win and I'm delighted for the players and the supporters," he told harriers.co.uk
"We worked our socks off and got our rewards tonight - I've heard better manager's than me this week talking about how it's all about winning and that's true at this stage of the season.
"We certainly won ugly tonight, but we'll take that."
Goalkeeper Scott Bevan pulled off a string of fine saves to keep Cambridge at bay in this game, denying in particular Scott Rendell and Rob Wolleaston.
A coy Yates went on to congratulate the shot-stopper on truly earning his corn against Jimmy Quinn's side, for whom he had high praise.
"Scotty did what he gets paid to do!" he added.
"We over-relied on him at times but he showed why he's one of the best goalkeepers in the division, he did what we know he can.
"Cambridge are the best side we've played this season, but credit to the boys, we knew if we were going to get where we want to go this season we needed to win tonight."
