Boss: Keep Believing
Manager Mark Yates has admitted that today's win over Farsley Celtic could well be a 'season defining' victory.
With more than 90 minutes played it looked as if the Leeds-based side had held Harriers to a draw, Damian Reeves' opener cancelled out by James Constable's fantastic goal.
But with the last kick of the game, Russell Penn's effort nestled into the back of the Celtic net - and all of a sudden, the play-offs don't seem quite so much of a distant dream.
Harriers may well still be five points and a game or two behind fifth-placed Cambridge United, but Yates admitted after today's game that his side's 2-1 win could be a vital result for the season.
"That was the phrase the coaching staff used today," he said.
"We didn't use it to the players - we didn't go as far as that because you don't want to put that pressure on them but you want to give a little reminder to them.
"I think the players knew that, were aware of it - they certainly took it on board.
"It was a good 90-minute performance; we tried to play some good, attacking football.
"Of course we would've liked to have scored more goals but we stuck at it, and we're still fighting."
Yates stressed the strength of his squad following their third consecutive win at Aggborough - the likes of Russell and Bennett drawing praise from the gaffer, who called on his players to keep up their self-belief.
"Simon Russell hasn't been involved for the last couple of games but I thought he did superbly well today," continued Yates.
"Dean Bennett was disappointed not to start today - he didn't have particularly good games in his last couple of performances so we went with Simon but Benno came on and for half an hour he was excellent.
"His work-rate and ability was excellent. We have a squad here that is decent and they just have to keep believing in themselves and putting in good performances."
The manager added: "That's one defeat in ten now - We haven't won enough of those games but today we've found that belief and that spirit and that was great for the supporters who were here."
Harriers are next in action this coming Tuesday night when they entertain Weymouth at Aggborough in an FA Trophy Second Round replay. Admission prices are £13 for adults, £5 for concessions and £2 for U16s - to all areas of the ground.
