Yates Hits Out at 'Naive' Harriers
Frustrated Manager Mark Yates has attacked his lacklustre troops for 'taking liberties' in the sides' 2-1 home defeat to Salisbury City on Saturday.
1-0 up and seemingly cruising despite Iyseden Christie's early penalty miss, the hosts allowed the visitors back into the game at Aggborough as City went on to score twice and steal all three points.
An angry Yates after the game lamented Harriers' curse of continually contributing to their own downfall with poor concentration and sloppy goals.
He revealed that the performances of some players may force him to re-think where their futures lay come the end of the summer.
"It doesn't get any better than being 1-0 up and creating a few good chances," he said.
"But we just gifted them two diabolical goals and proved how naive we can be.
"We huffed and puffed in the second half but didn't do enough to test their goalkeeper and that's majorly disappointing.
"We have a habit of making things difficult for ourselves. Some of the players have got to learn, and learn very quickly for their futures - wherever that may be."
Harriers reacted well to Christie's hashed spot-kick but wilted after going behind to goals from Liam Feeney and Robert Matthews.
Yates added: "The players are better than they're showing but they've got to have more about them - more resilience and that wasn't there today.
"I felt a number of players took liberties today - playing for themselves and not the team and that's not what I'm about and not what we're about.
"We'll have to pick ourselves up and have a re-think with where we're going with some of the players."
Rushden and Diamonds visit Aggborough in the Setanta Shield Fifth Round on Tuesday night, with Yates hinting that changes were likely following today's effort.
He went on: "One or two of the performances today didn't warrant getting a shirt for the game on Tuesday."
