Strikers Darryl Knights and Justin Richards were praised by boss Mark Yates for their efforts in last night's pre-season friendly draw with Plymouth Argyle.

Former Peterborough front man Richards found the back of the net in the second half whilst livewire Knights did almost everything but score.

Talking to the official Harriers' website after the game, Yates applauded the efforts of his two forwards, who both now have a goal apiece from the club's first two friendly fixtures.

"Darryl worked his socks off and he probably epitomised us all night," commented Yates.

"He was lively, he caused them problems and he worked for the team.

"I'm delighted for Justin, too, because he needed that goal.

"He has a fresh slate at the club and hopefully the goal will be the first of many more."

Richards and released Stockport full-back Michael Bowler were on the score sheet for the home side last night whilst Argyle had Jamie Mackie's two headed efforts to thank as the game ended 2-2.

Yates remained pleased with the work-rate of his side and noted the development of more and more teamwork within the squad.

"It was a decent game, like I've said to them; these games are a continuation of what we're doing in training and from this game you can see how hard they've been working," he went on.

"It was the perfect game, it was a chance for a lot of the boys to impress and there were some good individual performances but they worked together very well as a team.

"We were up against a very, very good side but we coped. We had to work hard to cope at times, but it was pleasing."

Harriers leave Aggborough for Devon and the Errea South West Challenge Cup on Monday, as they meet Yeovil Town (Wednesday) and Barnstaple (Friday) in Group games next week.

Yates added: "We're looking forward to being in each other's company and being able to live and work with each other for the week.

"It's something I've been desperate to do with the squad, to get them away, and I'm grateful for the opportunity."
