FOLLOWING today's win over Rushden & Diamonds, boss Mark Yates revealed he'll be working to convince the Harriers board to help in securing the permanent signature of full-back Keith Lowe.

Former Wolves man Lowe put in another superb showing at the back this afternoon as Harriers came from behind to defeat their old rivals 2-1 at Aggborough.

Yates had been hoping to tie up Lowe, currently on a non-contract deal, onto a permanent arrangement prior to the weekend but has yet been able to cement the details.

The Harriers' Chief admitted after the win that he hoped the performance would help secure the ex-Port Vale defender's services ahead of Monday's transfer window deadline.

"He's quality, and we've got to get him," Yates said.

"We have to make sure he signs for us, absolutely 100%

"I've now got to go and persuade them to keep this squad together. Money is tight but they've got to see that something can happen here this season - I think this performance shows that.

"Today was what it's all about - a bit of everything; quality football, hard work, commitment and endeavour.

"That summed the performance up and if we do that, there's nothing I've seen in this division to make me think 'I don't fancy playing them.'

"We're very young - sometimes we will make naive mistakes but this was a decent performance and a good game, the support was superb and there was a decent atmosphere here."

Yates went on to reflect on the game, which was an entertaining affair that saw Rushden go ahead through Dean McDonald's goal before Russ Penn's double - a goal in each half - won it for Harriers.

For the Manager, it was a game that had a bit of everything.

"I thought we were the better team in the first-half, whilst they had more of it in the second half," he added.

"They really came at us - Gary has got a massive budget and some quality players but my players showed what they're about today.

"First half, we got the ball, created opportunities and played some decent stuff and in the second we defended superbly well, dug in deep and put bodies on the line.

"It's what it's all about -the players can take terrific heart from it."
