Mark Yates poured more praise on his impressive front pairing Matthew Barnes-Homer and Justin Richards after the duo again combined in impressive style against Oxford today.

A superbly-worked move between the two strikers helped former Wycombe man Barnes-Homer grab his fifth goal of the campaign - with Richards also on five, the pair have established themselves as the duo to avoid for league defences.

Speaking after today's 1-0 win over the U's at Aggborough Stadium, boss Yates remained delighted with the work-rate of the two dangerous forwards.

"I thought my front two were superb, we just couldn't get enough quality into them in the second half," said Yates.

"Justin and Matthew have a great understanding and unfortunately for Darryl Knights they're keeping a very good player on the bench at the moment.

"There was some tremendous movement, the goal was superb - you won't see a better goal.

"They're two big, strong, powerful boys and they're doing the business at the moment - they've got five goals each, that's ten goals from my two strikers in the first nine games and I'm happy with that."

Barnes-Homer's strike was worthy of winning any game but Harriers dug in deep to record their fourth win in five home games, continuing their unbeaten start to the campaign at Aggborough.

Though under the cosh for a lot of the second half, Oxford failed to create any real chances as the home defence kept things tight.

Yates continued: "We've ground it out - it wasn't a classic performance but my boys have got to take a lot of credit because they dug in there.

"Barts has had a couple of saves to make in the first half and although they had a lot of possession in the second half because we gave the ball away a bit too cheaply, they never really threatened us too much

"We didn't hold on to the ball like we'd want to and Oxford threw men forward at us but we held firm.

"I thought in the second half, [Creighton] marshalled them very well and we dealt with most of it comfortably."

Harriers find themselves ninth in the Blue Square Premier tonight with the only blemish on their start to the season being an inability thus far to convert performances into points away from home.

They travel to Weymouth next weekend in a bid to put that right and move into the league Play-Off places. Away Travel information will be available here on harriers.co.uk in the morning.
