MARK Yates admitted that his Harriers side were far from at their best despite recording a first away win of the season at Weymouth this afternoon.

Harriers came from behind in the second half with Justin Richards and Darryl Knights on target in the 2-1 win.

But with the success only coming with virtually the last kick of the game and some suspect defending at times, Yates was understandably less than thrilled with the performance, though happy with the three points.

"We weren't at our best today," he said after the game.

"We started well in the first half but then conceded a really poor goal on our part.

"Justin scored a great goal after that and we had a couple of chances but we weren't at our best - no matter how many times I screamed that we were too deep in the second half, we didn't do anything about it.

"The players took it upon themselves to play deep and it could and should have cost us - fortunately for us it didn't.

"It wasn't pretty but it was a game I felt we could win, we put some offensive players on at the end and managed to get a result - some will say fortuitously, but we deserve that."

Yates, who will take his players into battle at Aggborough against York on Tuesday, added: "We got a result without playing particularly well but we have to learn and we have to be a hell of a lot better for Tuesday.

"It was important we got something out of the game - we just weren't defending with our usual assurance and we're better than that: we just needed three points."
