BOSS Mark Yates applauded the atmosphere at Aggborough Stadium during Harriers' 2-0 Blue Square Premier win over York City.

Yates and his players had called some time ago for the volume to be turned up inside the ground as the side started to put together results; and home supporters have responded in fine style.

Speaking after the game, Yates said: "Sometimes they need something to go on, and like me they were probably frustrated for the first hour or so.

"When the first goal went in we started to play a bit - David McDermott came on and did really well and started zipping the ball about and gave us some confidence.

"The atmosphere was great - the fans can see that we have some great players here and that they're putting the effort in, and that's all we ask."

Tuesday night's result was enough to take Harriers up to third in the Blue Square Premier table.

Whilst this has obviously pleased the Manager, he was keen to keep things in perspective - as a weekend defeat at Eastbourne and results elsewhere could yet see the side drop back down some eight places.

"We're not going to get carried away," Yates continued.

"I like the spirit the boys have got and how they showed it at the end.

"I'll make sure that when they come back in on Thursday that it doesn't become cockiness and I'm sure it wasn't meant as that - it just shows what spirit they have in the dressing room and within themselves.

"The players have to take massive, massive credit at the moment, they're doing the business.

"They're hanging in there; at times it's not pretty but at other times, like the second goal, it's real quality and they're producing the stuff.

"We just have to keep working hard - we won't be thinking 'Oh isn't it great to be third??', because we know it's a long season."
