Striker Faces Hamstring Wait

Posted on: Wed 08 Oct 2008

STRIKER Justin Richards will have a scan tomorrow to determine how long he'll be out of action after limping out of last night's 1-1 draw with Northwich.

The front-man, who has eight goals to his name already this term, left the field in some discomfort after less than half an hour, and has already been ruled out of contention for this weekend's game with Ebbsfleet by boss Mark Yates.

Speaking to harriers.co.uk today, Yates explained: "It's a hamstring injury and Justin will have a scan on it tomorrow and we'll see how he goes, but he won't be available for Saturday's game.

"On the plus side, Darryl was excellent for us when he came on and I've no doubt he can do things for us."

The Harriers' Chief added that talks will continue with ex-Aston Villa striker Stefan Moore, with the free agent keen to join the Aggborough ranks.

"It is an area where we're a bit short and I'll be speaking to Stefan Moore again this afternoon," he continued.

"Stefan wants to come and play for us and be part of things but I'll have to speak to the Chairman to see if that's possible. I'm sure, short-term, we'll be able to sort something out."

Yates was pleased with the efforts of his players at the Marston's Arena last night despite admitting that a late lapse in concentration and missed chances meant that the return was just one point rather than three.

"We played very well, it was a battling performance," he reflected.

"They're not a bad team - their league position doesn't show the true picture.

"As the first half wore on we got better and better and we came out after the break strongly and scored a really good goal.

"We could and should have scored more goals and I've said to them that if you don't take chances and kill teams off there's always that chance they'll get something and that's cost us two points.

"We deserved a win but we didn't take our chances and we've switched off for that one vital moment."

Harriers have dropped five points to what some would label 'lesser' opposition in Barrow and Victoria, but Yates once again repeated the warning that there are no free lunches in the Blue Square Premier.

"I can fully understand where people are coming from but there are no easy games in this league, whether you're playing top or bottom," he added.

"We've seen that with our results and other teams' - there are games you're expected to win but it just isn't as easy as that.

"We're nearly a third of the way through the season and we have to be happy with where we are and some of the performances we've put in."
