HARRIERS boss Mark Yates was a satisfied man despite seeing his side knocked out of the Setanta Shield last night.
A much-changed though no less impressive Harriers side were beaten 3-2 at Burton Albion's Pirelli Stadium, with Jody Banim's impressive free-kick beating Dean Coleman late on.
Shaun Harrad had given Albion the lead early on but the visitors then dominated the game, with goals from David McDermott and Darryl Knights putting them ahead.
But the late free-kick ensured that it was Nigel Clough's outfit who went through.
"It was a good finish [from Banim] but we didn't deserve that on our performance," said Yates.
"We were excellent - Burton are supposed to be a passing, football side but I think you'll see we're more than a match.
"The players who've come in have been, to a man, superb.
"We were desperate to get through, but I'm more than delighted with the way we played and the way we passed them off the park."
There was drama in the first period when home goalkeeper Saul Deeney raced some 20 yards from his area to haul down Stefan Moore who'd taken the ball past him, one on one.
Despite the last-man challenge, Deeney was merely cautioned rather than dismissed. Yates added: "It was complete and utter professional foul - he knew exactly what he was doing so he's off for me.
"It's not even a debate whether there were men running back or not - Stef's tapped it past him and is just going to roll it into an empty net.
"I am not trying to get people sent off, but the referee got that one wrong."
