YATES: All About the Points

Posted on: Sun 15 Mar 2009

IT'S all about results and points, insisted boss Mark Yates after he saw his side record their second win on the spin at Lewes on Saturday.

Following a blip since the turn of the year, Harriers have now gone on a run of three wins and a draw from their last four matches - all also being clean sheets.

The latest was yesterday's 1-0 win at the Dripping Pan - Harriers dominated throughout, despite the latter stages of the game lacking the early sparkle and the added comfort of a second goal.

Speaking after the games, a relieved Yates said: "We thoroughly deserved to get the three points.

"It was about attitude - I had been dreading this game in a sense; a new manager who would have got them going and 14 consecutive defeats - we needed to start well and we did that.

"I thought we played some good stuff on a poor surface and created a lot of chances. Their keeper has made two or three excellent saves in the first half and two or three more in the second.

"At 1-0, as comfortable as we were - I don't think Barts has had a shot to save - you're always on the edge and there's always that doubt in your mind.

"Ideally we wanted to put the game to bed... but the bottom line is that it's all about results and we've got another important three points."

Harriers now rise to sixth in the table, two places above Crawley over whom they still hold two games in hand, as well as games in hand over others in the play-off spots.

Yates added: "We're right in it and I've said that all along - the players have worked extremely hard to put us in this position.

"We've got to see the job through. We know we're good enough and there's belief and spirit within the camp that's determined to get us there.

"I've said every week, we've got to pick up as many points as we can as quickly as we can - seven points in a week is a good return."
