Mark Yates admitted Harriers were far from their best at Wrexham on Monday night, but having three points in the bag is all that concerns him.
Chris McPhee's injury time header sealed a league double over the Racecourse Ground outfit, giving Harriers rare back to back away wins to continue their good form.
Speaking after the game, boss Yates explained he never really expected the free-flowing football from his side that he saw take Woking apart; he was instead happy for them to grind out this vital result.
"It wasn't the prettiest performance, it wasn't our best performance and it wasn't a classic," he said.
"It was tough out there in the wind and Dean had obviously got his players fired up and they came at us and had a right good go at us.
"We stood firm and ground it out and that's what you've got to do at this stage of the season.
"We played some great football on Saturday - I never considered it would be like that [tonight], as much as we wanted to.
"You could see there was a bit of anxiety on their bench and I just said to the boys in injury time 'you'll get one more chance' - and the one that counted was fortunately the winner."
Stevenage will have the chance to bump Harriers back down outside the play-off places with victory over Histon tonight that will still leave the side with a game in hand on Borough.
For Yates and co, it's on to Thursday's Senior Cup game at home to Redditch (7:30pm) where the Manager admits he'll get some game time into those not featuring in the starting set-up at the moments.
And from there it's back to league action away at York City who now have a date set at Wembley in this season's FA Trophy Final.
"Every game is a big game and to take points off good teams who are up there is very pleasing," added Yates.
"It won't be easy [at York], we know that. They've got some good players.
"Hopefully they might take their eye off the ball a touch but I doubt that very much - it should be a decent game."
