A philosophical Steve Burr admitted that it was 'just one of those days' as Harriers came away from Eastbourne Borough empty handed on Saturday on what was a frustrating day in front of goal.
Harriers did their best to hit a stung Borough side with their flowing, attacking play on an awful pitch and a windy afternoon, but found almost every avenue towards the back of Danny Knowles' net blocked by a resolute home outfit, determined to tighten up after 6-0 walloping at the same venue in midweek.
Even when they did breach their vast lines of defence, they found the frame of the goal as an enemy of the day - four times in the 90 minutes Harriers struck the woodwork, perhaps none closer than Dean Bennett who was denied from distance as injury time approached.
"It was one of those days today - the conditions didn't help either side," said the Aggborough boss after the 0-0 stalemate, which lengthens the gap between Harriers and the play-off places to nine points with a game in hand.
"The pitch was very dry and bumpy and you had to try and contend with those type of things.
"But I still think we did enough to win the game; we hit the woodwork four times and obviously they've had a couple as well.
"I said to the lads before the game that they would be fired up after losing heavily and this is a tough place to come."
Young striker Adam Boyes, on loan from Scunthorpe United, led the line with his first start for the club. He was one of the many also denied by the woodwork as his fine dipping effort left the bar shaking in the second period.
"I thought Adam did very well, particularly in the first half," added Burr.
"He's not played a lot of football over the last couple of months but I thought he did really well for us today.
"And it was important that the lads didn't get too down or frustrated about the performance today because it was just one of those days when you had to try and win the game as ugly as you could and unfortunately we just didn't get that goal."
Harriers now face two meetings with Stevenage Borough over the next couple of Saturday's as they play out a two-legged FA Trophy semi-Final.
Just for good measure, there's a trip to play-off rivals Luton Town in between.
An upbeat gaffer warned: "We'll be fired up and ready to go on Saturday - it is a big week for us."
