Posted on: Wed 22 Feb 2012

Steve Burr insists that Harriers must maintain the levels of desire and commitment if they are to arrest their recent blip in form a claim a place in the BSBP play-offs.

Harriers went down 1-0 to Wrexham at Aggborough on Tuesday night to continue a run that's seen them without a win since the last-gasp victory at Alfreton last month.

But for the largest part of this latest game the reds were more than a match for one of the favourites for the title this season.

The Dragons defended doggedly to see out a 1-0 success and Burr says his team must stick to their guns in order to gain rewards.

Speaking after the game he said he felt for his players, commenting: "I couldn't have asked for any more tonight.

"That was Anthony Malbon's first start and I thought he did quite well.

"We had a lot of young lads out there and the experience Wrexham had in their team showed.

"But I like to see young players expressing themselves and who are full of energy and I thought we showed that tonight.

"What we're missing at the minute is something dropping for us. We've stopped scoring at important times or [taking] chances when they come along but that will come back.

"If we keep working like that tonight then we're not going to be far away come the end of the season."

Reflecting on the game that saw Dragons' player-boss Andy Morrell score the only goal of the game, Burr added: "Wrexham are a good side but I thought our lads pushed them all the way.

"We took a different approach to the game tonight to get amongst them and I thought everything we worked on worked to a certain degree.

"I just feel little things that you need to drop for you deserted us."
